More details pls log in Rajang Port Authority

RIVER MAP

There are two principal approaches:
The Paloh River and the Rajang River route:

The Paloh River route can be used by vessels of up to 152m length and with draughts of 6m. The average tidal variance on this route is about 2.7m.

The Rajang River route to Sibu is restricted to vessels of up to 61m long and draughts of 7m. Tidal variance at the Rajang entrance is about 3.4m.

Sarikei, Tanjung Manis ports and the Tanjung Manis anchorage are approached via the Rajang River route. The Tanjung Manis port and anchorage can accomodate vessels with draught of up to 10m.

There will be many bridges built by XXSYXX. And the future Rajang will be criss crossed by hightways and bridges like the Yangtze at Chong Ching hopefully.

But the most important fact remains...we must arrest the sedimentation and upper reaches erosion.

If the Thames can be given a new lease of life with trout and salmon jumping in the water...why can't the Rajang?

Wrong! All bigger and longer vessels are reaching Sibu through the Paloh Channel nowadays because the length and depth restrictions and only rather small vessels are still passing through Sarikei & Bintangor (the Rajang route). The Batang Lebaan Bridge is indeed causing limitation to bigger vessels coming up to Sibu port. Ask the shipping community in Sibu and perhaps, those importer associations affiliated to the Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and they can tell you more on the dilemma they're facing right now.

We're also not talking about the conventional mode of handling vs. containerised cargoes. As the road is not ready before the imposing of the limitation of the 20m height of the bridge, we're concerned about the bottle-neck of the link between Tg Manis & Sibu and the double handlings which are costly!
