For many generations Chinese and Ibans have been calling (Cheng Fu) mothers and fathers as " Ah Hang Pa/Ah Ming Pa) or mothers as "Ah Chuo Mah/Ah Ling Mah). Amongst the Ibans I am known as Mak Linda.....or Indai Linda. This will one day go out of fashion.
Mr. Lau Nguong Ding (Bus Company) will always be Ah Hang Pa to me since he was our neighbour.
In the past people had lots of respect for others starting by calling them with the right "honourable name calling".
Now we distance ourselves by calling acquaintances "Mrs. Wong" or "Datin Lau".
Are we creating social distancing? And building more social fences?
yes, most of the title make a gap to seperate the relationship of the ppl.
u can see in the newspaper not only state own's title, but also stated that hold what degree or graduate.
Hahaha!
Obama has many degrees. He is just Barrack Obama. President USA.
Clinton too...he is one of the best law professors in the US. but he is just Bill Clinton...so is his wife...
Some people can be so humble...and yet...some people can have a mile long of initials after their names.
Maya Angelou is another example...she speaks so many languages and holds so many degrees very few can match...
